How to Install Video LUTs in Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci, and CapCut

If you’ve bought a video LUT pack, the install process differs by editor. The .cube file format is universal — it works in Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci, CapCut, LumaFusion, and almost every other LUT-capable tool — but each editor has its own way of importing and applying. This guide covers the four most common editors with the exact menus.

Before you start

  • Unzip your LUT pack to find the .cube files
  • Know the difference: technical LUTs (e.g., S-Log to Rec.709) convert log footage; creative LUTs apply a stylized look on top of correctly-exposed footage. Apply technical LUTs first, then creative LUTs on top
  • Make sure your footage’s exposure and white balance are corrected before applying creative LUTs (the “primary grade” step)

Method 1 — Premiere Pro

  1. In Premiere Pro, open the Lumetri Color panel (Window → Lumetri Color)
  2. Click Creative in the Lumetri panel
  3. In the Look dropdown, scroll to the bottom and choose Browse…
  4. Navigate to your .cube file and select it
  5. The LUT applies immediately. Use the Intensity slider below to dial back if it’s too strong

To install LUTs permanently in Premiere

Drop your .cube files into:

  • Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/LUTs/Creative/
  • Windows: C:Program FilesAdobeCommonLUTsCreative

Restart Premiere. Your LUTs now appear in the Look dropdown by default — no more browsing each time.

Method 2 — Final Cut Pro X

  1. Select your video clip on the timeline
  2. Open the Inspector panel (top right or hit Cmd+4)
  3. Click Effects at the top of the Inspector
  4. In the Effects browser, search for Custom LUT
  5. Drag the Custom LUT effect onto your clip
  6. Back in the Inspector, click the LUT dropdown → Choose Custom LUT
  7. Select your .cube file
  8. Adjust the Mix slider to dial intensity

Method 3 — DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve has the most professional color tooling and the most thorough LUT support.

One-time use

  1. Switch to the Color page
  2. Right-click your node → LUTsBrowse
  3. Select your .cube file

Permanent install

  1. Open Project Settings → Color Management → Lookup Tables
  2. Click Open LUT Folder — this opens the Resolve LUT directory
  3. Drop your .cube files in (you can create subfolders to organize)
  4. Back in Resolve, click Update Lists
  5. LUTs now appear in the LUT panel on the Color page

Method 4 — CapCut and LumaFusion (mobile editors)

CapCut (mobile and desktop)

  1. Add your video clip to the timeline
  2. Tap/click the clip to select it
  3. Choose Adjust → LUT
  4. Tap Import and select your .cube file from your device’s storage
  5. Adjust intensity with the slider

LumaFusion (iOS / iPadOS)

  1. Select your clip
  2. Tap the Color tab
  3. Tap Add LUT and import your .cube file from Files

Common problems

“The LUT makes my footage look terrible”

LUTs assume correctly-exposed footage. If your video is overexposed, underexposed, or has bad white balance, the LUT will faithfully remap the wrong colors. Before applying a creative LUT, do a primary grade: correct exposure with the Lift/Gamma/Gain wheels (or basic exposure slider), correct white balance, then apply the LUT on top.

“I’m shooting log/RAW and the LUT looks washed out”

You may need a technical LUT first to convert your log color space to Rec.709 (the standard delivery space), and then your creative LUT on top. Most LUT packs sell technical and creative LUTs separately. If your camera shoots S-Log, V-Log, or BMD Film, look for the matching technical LUT for your camera before applying creative looks.

“I don’t see my LUT in the dropdown”

Make sure you put it in the right folder for your editor (see paths above). Restart the editor. If still not visible, the .cube file may be malformed — re-download from your purchase.
