If you edit on both desktop and mobile, you’ve probably wished your presets just synced between them automatically. Adobe makes this complicated. The answer depends on which Lightroom version you use — and getting it right is one of the most-asked questions about Lightroom workflows. This is the practical guide.
The short answer
- Lightroom CC (cloud) ↔ Lightroom Mobile (Premium): presets sync automatically.
- Lightroom Classic ↔ Lightroom Mobile: presets do not sync directly. You need a workaround.
- Lightroom Classic ↔ Lightroom CC: they don’t sync presets natively, but you can manually re-import.
- Free Lightroom Mobile: doesn’t sync with anything. You install presets locally.
Why this is the way it is
Adobe maintains two product lines:
- Lightroom Classic — the legacy professional desktop app, file-based, catalog-driven. No native cloud library.
- Lightroom (CC + Mobile) — the modern cloud-based product. Library lives in Adobe’s cloud, syncs across devices.
The two systems don’t share a sync engine. Adobe has been slowly bridging them, but as of 2026 you still have to manage some things manually.
Method 1 — If you use Lightroom CC + Lightroom Mobile (Premium)
This is the easiest scenario:
- Import presets into Lightroom CC on desktop (or Lightroom Mobile Premium — either works)
- Lightroom syncs them to your Adobe cloud library automatically
- Within a few minutes, the presets appear on every device signed in to the same Adobe account
If you don’t see them on a second device, force a sync: in Lightroom Mobile, tap your profile icon and ensure cloud sync is enabled.
Method 2 — If you use Lightroom Classic + Lightroom Mobile
This is the most common professional workflow, and it’s the trickiest. Lightroom Classic does not natively sync presets to Lightroom Mobile. You have three options:
Option A — Bridge through Lightroom CC
If you have a Creative Cloud subscription that includes Lightroom CC alongside Classic:
- In Lightroom Classic, find the preset you want to sync
- Right-click the preset → Export (saves as
.xmp) - In Lightroom CC desktop, import that
.xmp - It syncs to Lightroom Mobile via the cloud automatically
Option B — Install on mobile separately
If you bought a preset pack that includes .dng files, install them in Lightroom Mobile directly. See our mobile install guide. Your Classic presets and Mobile presets will be separate, but both work.
Option C — Migrate Classic to CC
If sync is a priority, Adobe provides a “Migrate to Lightroom” tool that moves your Classic catalog to the cloud version. This unlocks automatic preset sync to mobile, but you give up some Classic-specific features (advanced print module, certain plugins). See our Lightroom version comparison for the tradeoffs.
Method 3 — If you use free Lightroom Mobile only
Free Lightroom Mobile doesn’t sync. Install presets directly on the device using .dng files. They live only on that phone — switching phones means re-installing.
For full mobile install steps, see our how to install Lightroom presets on mobile.
Common sync problems
“My presets sync to one device but not another”
Make sure both devices are signed in to the same Adobe account, and both have cloud sync enabled. In Lightroom Mobile, tap your profile icon → ensure “Sync” is on. In Lightroom CC desktop, ensure you’re signed in (top right corner shows your Adobe profile).
“Presets are showing twice”
This usually happens after migrating from Classic to CC, or after manually re-importing a pack you already had. Delete the duplicate set in the Presets panel.
“Sync is taking forever”
Cloud sync depends on your Adobe storage tier. If you’re approaching your storage cap, sync slows or stops. Check your Adobe account dashboard — if you’re hitting the cap, either upgrade or remove some unused photos from your cloud library.
Practical workflow recommendations
- Professional workflow: Use Classic for serious work, Lightroom Mobile (free) for quick edits. Install presets on each separately.
- Hobbyist workflow: Use Lightroom CC + Mobile Premium. Sync handles itself.
- Hybrid workflow: Classic for client work, CC + Mobile for personal/quick use. Manually re-import presets to CC when you want sync.
